What does the abbreviation LEI stand for?

LEI is an acronym for Legal Entity Identifier. It can be used to easily identify any commercial participant in a financial transaction. It is a twenty-digit combination of letters and numbers that can be used to identify the holder without any doubt.

Who needs an LEI?

Advance information: With the introduction of MiFID II on January 3, 2018, every security listed on an exchange requires a Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) of the issuer and exchanges therefore successively cease trading in securities without an issuer LEI. With the close of trading on August 18, 2021, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange will also comply with this requirement. The last trading day for securities without a legal entity identifier (LEI) of the issuer in the Regulated Unofficial Market on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange is therefore August 18, 2021.

Each participant in a financial transaction requires an LEI number. In particular, this refers to:

1.Companies, subsidiaries and branches

2.Non-profit organizations

3.Foundations and funds

4.Authorities and public institutions

5.Sole proprietorships

How to apply for an LEI?

As a Registration Agent, we will take care of obtaining your LEI. To do this, you simply need to select a package that suits you, fill in the form with the information required for the LEI application and enter the payment method. We will apply for the LEI for you at our cooperating LOU and send you the LEI number via email within a few moments.

Who can apply for an LEI?

In principle, an LEI can only be applied for by legal entities, but not by private individuals. Only those persons can apply for an LEI who are authorized to conduct financial transactions on behalf of the company according to the country-specific law.

What information/documents are needed to apply for the LEI?

In most cases, the company is registered with the registry court. If this is not the case, a registration document from the tax authority is required. In addition, the information we request in our form is required for the application.
